Steady Leadership for Newton's Future
Our family loves living in Newton. My wife Gina and I worked hard and saved up to buy our house here in Auburndale. Gina‘s family roots in Newton go back generations. I am first generation American and I moved to this area to volunteer teach after college, and stayed. Our three children attend Newton Public Schools, and I am committed to our community, schools, local democracy, prosperity, and making Newton even better for the future. I’m the founder of a successful operating sustainable energy business and prior to that I started a non-profit. I’m a youth sports coach and a volunteer at our church. As your City Councilor, I promise to listen to all perspectives, analyze the data and the proposals, and endeavor to find the solutions that you and all my constituents prefer.
What Newton is Saying About John
Chris C.
John Chaimanis, thank you for taking one for the team. I could not imagine having a better voice for our city.
Lisa D.
I’ve known John now as a neighbor and fellow NPS parent for over 6 years and would be hard-pressed to name an individual with stronger character, values, ethics and general demeanor than John. He’s the right balance of entrepreneur and family-man, and one that I have all the faith will represent Newton residents well as a Councilor.
Eyhab A.
John brings to the city council life experience, business skills, enthusiasm and the ability to get the job done.

I had the opportunity to meet John Chaimanis at Newtv’s Ice cream and car event. He is one of the most educated candidates I have ever met. He is married to a local Newton Gal and together they have a beautiful family. John is just what the city of Newton needs. I urge you to vote for this outstanding candidate and hopefully the Next Ward 4 at- large City Councilor.
Virginia G.
Why John? For me the choice is simple John listens and asks questions. I also believe he will he get things done. In a climate when we have leaders that tend to speak over each other and place their own agenda above the good of the community. I want a leader who takes the time to listen to the concerns of the people they will serve then takes action. I sense that is type of leader John will be. I genuinely feel that John wants to make Newton a better community for ALL its residents.

John is the type of person you want in your corner. He’s honest, practical and open minded. John listens to all sides, makes informed decisions and is determined to do the right thing. Knowing someone like John will be representing the city of Newton means Newton will be well shaped for future generations.
Lauren O.
I’ve known John for many years. The thing that impresses me the most is his thoughtful approach to challenges and his thinking out of the box.. He has a huge heart for doing good for others, and does that with integrity. His positive outlook affect all those around him whether socially or at work experience; a truth from nature.
Virginia C.
A reasonable government needs reasonable leaders, but more than that, wisdom and empathy would be nice in these trying times. I’ll vote for John and Newton should too.

Making Good Things Happen
Newton is asking for reasonable leaders that want the best for everyone and also ask hard questions about how to make that happen. My life of service, entrepreneurship, and parenthood have prepared me for this role.
This is a competitive race, and YOUR VOTE REALLY COUNTS. I’ve already started working on initiatives where I can make a difference right now.

The New Burr School Field
The opening has been delayed due to establishing the turf, but after a few parents reached out, I took action. I've been working with Newton Parks and Recreation on a plan to open some portions of the newly constructed field. There are still areas that will be fenced, but it will give the kids some green to run on. Thank you to the concerned parents that reached out to me, and to the good people at Parks and Rec who were open to my appeal.

Newton North Concession Stand
Newton North does not have a concession stand, unlike other schools area high schools and Newton South. Shelia Butze, of the Newton North Booster Club reached out to discuss her efforts to change that. I love this idea, and I’ve taken action. I immediately shared a sample profit and loss statement to evaluate the economics. I think it would be excellent for students to take an active role in running the stand to learn about business finances and job responsibility.

Boys and Girls Club Bus Drop-Off
The Boys and Girls Club of Newton provides incredible after- school programming which is a huge help to working parents, but kids can’t get there from school without a car ride. I'm supporting and evaluating a request to have school buses (or other shuttle bus service) drop students directly there. Adding one more stop on the bus route could solve this, reduce car trips significantly, help working parents, and give more kids afterschool options.

Electric School Buses
Green Newton shared with me that they’d like to understand the value proposition of EVs and work through some of the logistical challenges. I took action by sending a few emails to contacts at the Harvard Kennedy School and generally in the EV sector. I’ll be overseeing a group of graduate students as they perform a pro-bono consulting engagement on the topic.
